Kamal Sabri
Kamal Sabri, a remarkable musician and son of Sarangi expert Ustad Sabri Khan, continues the legacy of the Senia and Moradabad Gharanas. As the seventh generation of a renowned family of traditional musicians, he showcases impressive skill in playing the Sarangi. Trained by his father since age 5 in the Senia Gharana style, Kamal quickly gained recognition for his talent. He has become a popular accompanist for distinguished classical vocalists.
Kamal has participated in numerous notable festivals in India, including the Harballabh Music Festival, Tansen Samaroh, Saptak Festival, Swami Haridas Music Festival, ITC Sangeet Sammelan, ICCR Festival of Music, and the Sangeet Natak Academy Golden Jubilee Festival. His performances have consistently earned praise from audiences and critics alike.
He has collaborated with famous musicians such as Zakir Hussain, Fateh Ali Khan, Hossam Ramzy, Ricky Niles from Barbados, Jukka Tolonen from Finland, and the Rondo Vienna Orchestra from Austria. He performed with Jan Garbarek for the King of Norway. Kamal has recorded music for well-known bands like Massive Attack and One Giant Leap, as well as for Hollywood and Bollywood films. This versatile musician is also a composer, creating ambient scores for documentaries like The Big Question with Mel Gibson and Monica Bellucci, Bollywood Boulevard, and Mystics of Sufism for the BBC, Red Cross, and Mother Teresa. He has composed music for various albums and orchestras, including Dance of the Desert, Sabri Ensemble, Sarangi Funk, and Indian Contemporary Music Orchestra. Kamal continues to explore music while preserving the essence of Indian Classical Music through his Sarangi.
