Ananda Gopal Bandopadhyay
Ananda was meticulously trained in the esteemed style of the Benaras Gharana by his revered teacher, Mahadev Prasad Mishra. His father, Radha Gopal Bandopadhyay, while an amateur vocalist, played a significant role in fostering Ananda's musical journey. Bandopadhyay has had the privilege of accompanying a number of notable vocal musicians and has also taken the initiative to produce several solo recordings, in addition to delivering captivating solo performances. Throughout his illustrious career, he has accompanied various prominent Hindusthani classical singers, leaving an indelible mark on the music scene.
Ananda has graced numerous stages in cities outside of India, including Boston, New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, and has participated in prestigious events such as the World Youth Festival in Berlin. Furthermore, Ananda Bandopadhyay has served as a past faculty member of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata. He is recognized as a top-rated artist on both All India Radio and Doordarshan. In 1965, his exceptional talent earned him the first prize in The All India Radio music competition, where he was bestowed with the prestigious President's Gold Medal. In 1970, in a remarkable recognition of his artistry, the Emperor of Ethiopia presented him with a Gold Medal, a rare honor rarely extended to foreign musicians. In 2012, his contributions to the art were celebrated with the esteemed Sangeet Ratna Award by The Salt Lake Music Association. Ananda has been featured in several notable albums throughout his career, which showcase his artistry and dedication to classical music.
